[Husker] Big Ten?

I can tell you people here in Big 10 country LOVE the idea of Nebraska joining the conference. They think it would give them an instant upgrade over every other school (save Notre Dame) that's being tossed around.

At first I thought about the "not enough viewers" argument. Omaha isn't the huge market size they would get with Pittsburgh or Mizzou (St. Louis AND Kansas City). But what school (again, save Notre Dame) has such a passionate fan base NATIONWIDE? The Big 10 is looking to make itself more viable, and the Big 10 Network has been talking with cable companies to expand more out of the Big 10 footprint.

I don't see it happening, but the more I've talked about it this week, it's made some sense. We've not been a fan of what's happened since the Big 12 formed - but being the new kid in an established conference would likely give Nebraska even less power than they have now. Plus we wouldn't get to beat up the Kansas schools and Colorado every year...

Subject: [Husker] Big Ten?

Former Husker John Decker opines that NU should make a push to join the Big Ten as that conference looks to add a twelfth member. A "Big Ten West" would presumably have Iowa and Minnesota (old, long-time NU rivals), along with Illinois, Wisconsin and Northwestern. Personally, I'd like to see it, but I don't think there's any chance the Big Ten would want NU: not enough TV viewers. Notre Dame will be their first choice (they have reportedly turned down previous overtures), and then maybe Mizzou.
