I think Turner Gill learned from his time at NU that assistant coaches are the key.
The head coach can only do so much, which includes setting the tone for the
program. In that regard, I see Turner as a great role model for KU, especially
in light of the reasons behind Mark Mangino's departure, and I certainly wish him
the best of luck in 11 regular season games each year.

The challenge for KU may be keeping him happy. He has no ties to the program,
having been born in Texas and played at Nebraska. Turner is about five years older
than Bo Pelini, so unless Bo bolts or implodes, Turner isn't likely to be be coming back
to Nebraska, except as a visiting coach every other year and, most likely, to recruit.
(And that may be a problem for the Huskers.)

I don't see Turner as an NFL coach, but if a school like Notre Dame, Florida State or
Penn State came to him in a few years, would he say no?
