Well, I think the basic requirement is knowing Xs and Os, which I think he
has shown through 1) his ability to run a complex offense, 2) his play
breakdowns on various media programs, and 3) interviews I have read or
heard.
And above that, I think you have to be an extremely good leader and have the
ability to relate to all different kinds of people. That's the one that's
hard to find out about until somebody actually gets an HC gig, though.
However, I think being good enough at the Xs and Os can get guys that
chance, at some level. And certainly, there are leadership and relationship
skills involved in any coaching job, the importance of which increase with
the prominence of the job.
Of course, that's all just my attempt to rationalize something that I
already believe. The short answer is that I just have a feeling about him.
