[Husker] Re: More field goals than TDs?

I feel I can comment a little on this topic as I used to play guard in
college. You can have the most simple or complicated blocking schemes
ever and none of it matters if you don't have the talent (or the ability
to develop the talent). Over the past several seasons I feel one of the
biggest reasons Nebraska's offense struggles is the relative lack of
strength on the offensive line. Sure there have been some powerful kids
sprinkled in but overall the strength level of the past several line
'incarnations' has been nowhere near that of the pipeline of the 90's.
There are several reasons for this, some of which most people have no
clue about, but it makes a huge difference in the effectiveness of the
line play, particularly with the power running game. Plus, I believe
most (if not all) the linemen playing now are Callahan recruits, who
were more likely chosen primarily for their potential as pass blockers.
Once Pelini and staff get a few road graters back in town the running
game will click and open up the play action passes and other aspects of
the offense that have simply been non existent. Just a hunch.

So how much credence do you give the young player hypothesis. Does
everyone get better so they can execute a more complex offensive
scheme even with the same coaches?

Do you think the offence changed because they finally fit the scheme
to the players they have rather than waiting for the players to fit
the scheme they wanted to run?

I agree it is all more complicated than the pundits on this list
could know not being with these young men as they progress through
the season but is a change really bad if it plays to the strengths of
the players you have?
