1.The Texas game may have produced some interesting conseqences, including:
a) Re-establishing NU among the Big XII‘s elite
b) Impressing the be-jesus out of a lot of Texas high school athletes
(recruiting)
c) Ditto for not a few kids outside Texas
d) Giving an “Unfinished Business” incentive to next year’s squad
e) Costing Colt McCoy the Heisman
2) The Holiday Bowl should give some O-line injuries time to heal. And
some fans time to regain a degree of equipoise.
3) We seem to have the ghost of Steve Pederson hovering around on this
list: after a 9-3 regular season and a squeaker loss for the conference
championship, some would like to see certain coaches fired. Have we
learned NOTHING from recent history?
4) I got my wish for this season: the Huskers were competitive in every
game.
5) At a recent Big Red Breakfast, Carl Pelini was asked if Eric Martin
would ever play first-strong on defense. He answered by saying that in the
future Martin would BE the defense, pretty much covering a recent List
question as to who’s going to replace Dillard.
5) Who can replace Suh? No one could truly replace him, but over the next
two seasons Crick might become a new Suh. I envision young Steinkuhler
joining Crick in the middle of the D-line.
6) Pre-season, Brandon Kinnie’s JC coach said we wouldn’t hear a whole lot
from him this first year but he’s become a star over the next two seasons.
I’d bet in 2011 we’ll be saying, “Mo who?”
