History check:
Many of the listers hoped to channel the 1996 Big XII Championship game for Saturday's game - instead, we channeled (in some ways) the 1994 Orange Bowl Game (it was after the 1993 season).
1994 Orange Bowl - Bennett kicked a 27 Fg to make it 16-15 NU with 1:18 left. Kickoff - out of bounds. Ball at 35. Drove deep in NU territory aided by (at least one) personal foul penalty. Bentley kicks the eventual game winner. Excessive celebration on FSU (21 seconds remaining) - NU gets the ball back, after an incompletion, Frazier hits Bell with a pass to the 28, clock runs to 0:00. They dump Gatorade on BB - but wait ... and then we have our version of "Wide Left" with 0:01 on the clock.
I guess for an old timer like me, I thought I was watching bit and pieces of randomly thrown together infamous Husker history Saturday night. Maybe that's why my I just shut the TV off and went to bed. I thought it was a perverse re-run.
Oh, well.
Previously said on the list:
The difference between the 1993 Orange Bowl and last night's game is that
the clock must stop upon change of possession, but the refs let more than
1 second run off the clock (which actually was an "egregious clock
error"). I remember watching it like it was yesterday and being totally
PO'd (if any of the listers or reporters were around me I would have
accused of not representing the university very well) when they let the
clock run out. Unfortunately, Nebraska missed the field goal.
