[Husker] Re: husker Digest, Vol 6, Issue 336

Come on people! Yes we had ups and downs this season and yes this game was "winnable" but I am so proud of our team going into Cowboys stadium -13.5 against UT, playing their hearts out, and leaving it all on the field. Great game and big step for the program-they have done the state proud and provided us all with many hours of entertainment. The future looks bright. A nice bowl bid and win will be the icing on the cake. Happy holidays huskerlisters!

Mack Brown should send a game ball to the officials. The pass
interference call on Hagg was horrible. There isn't a man alive who
could have come anywhere near to catching that ball. And on the
touchdown (if it was a touchdown), Gomes was clearly pulled down by his
jersey. Anyone think Texas would have scored a TD from the eleven?

If Alabama plays even close to their performance today, they will kick
the snot out of Texas. Roll Tide.

As well, if our offense makes another 1st down prior to the last FG, we kick with seconds on the clock.........

Perfect storm.............again.

I totally disagree...There was a kick-off that went out of bounds and an offense that couldn't put more than 12 pts. on the board and most of those assisted by the defense.

If we are placing blame. I could contend play calling on 1st and goal
down by four would rank pretty high.

I think asanta saw Shipley running wide open has him more concerned
with stopping him and less than how. Does he still loss the game if he
let's go before anyone else catches him and he scores?

This was an exciting game, and I must admit, a better performance by the Huskers than I expected. Texas has a very potent offense, and the Blackshirts shut them down. My heart was racing from the opening kickoff to the finish. I'm sure I'm not alone as someone who thought the game was over on Colt McCoy's last play. Couldn't have been any closer than that.

Some quick comments.

What happened to Helu? Burkhead was getting a lot of snaps.

Some controversial penalties (pass interference against Hagg) contributed greatly to 6 of Texas' points.

Suh, Crick, Allen, Turner, Hagg, Gomes, Amukura, O'Hanlon, Asante all had great games. Probably more, but can't think of them right off hand.

Niles Paul also had a great game.

Offense better figure something out before the bowl game.

My heart is still pounding.

On further review, I think I meant the call on Amukamara - the first PI
call on that drive. Whichever it was, it was wrong.

All so a no call on Suh when he was tackled on the last drive, I think
Mangino is right in that the refs sure protect Texas.

I think he was letting his coverage get to shipley that is why he was

Again, it's more the persistent nature of the personal fouls. Yes, his penalty wasn't the only reason NU lost. The crappy pass interference fouls, the kickoff out of bounds, and the completely inept offense. This was a game that could have been won.

KETV reporter after the game insinuated that the fix was in pertaining to the game clock. I might need some help with the NCAA rulebook on this one (I know the HS rule) on when the play is dead. Is it when the whistle blows the play dead or when the ball actually hits the ground? I have rewound the thing now 80 times and if you go by the whistle you hear on the TV (which I realize might have some delay) the game is over. If you go by when the ball hits the ground (which is kind of hard to see since it is out of bounds so far, it is like 0.3 seconds (I super slow motioned it and my time ticker which I can set to hundredths of a second says this as 7 ticks went off after the clock hit 1 second.

I am sick. Did we also not kick the ball out of bounds against Florida State in the 1993 Orange Bowl at the end? I know our offense was offensive, but I am just plain tired of losing to this team. Dag nab it, it was their conference that folded in 1995 and they added only four teams to the deal but of course we play in their state and maybe the fix was in.......who knows.......it just feels that way.

On every replay showing Suh, an offensive player is holding him by the
jersey. Why is it that the ref's don't call holding on great defenders?
I've noticed that all year. If you are a great defensive lineman, it's OK
to hold you. I'm really bitter about this game even though it was MUCH
closer than I expected. With an average offense, NU wins big. Again a bunch
of dropped passes and missed receivers, mostly caused by Lee not having
enough time to throw and being hampered by his height. If I were his
parents, I'd be very proud of him and the way he gets the most out of his
ability.

Bo says the defense will be better next year. That's great news. If you
look at the verbal commits, most are defensive players. I don't get it. We
should focus more on offense. I see NU being some better on O next year but
no where near where we need to be to be a top 5 team. Hope I'm wrong.

I LOVE the defense!~~ Since my 36 Ford has a skull theme going on I am
hoping Donnie will paint her black again this winter only adding the skull &
crossbones on the sides for the NE Blackshirts since that is their logo!
They are awesome! Even if we are stuck with a terrible offense. :(((
