STILLWATER, Okla. - The kickoff to the 2009 college football season is more than two weeks away, but Oklahoma State is already assured of breaking at least two records.
For the second consecutive year, OSU will set a new record for football season tickets and at the same time membership in the OSU POSSE, the fundraising arm of the athletic department, has also risen to record levels.
Last year, Oklahoma State set a new high-water mark by selling 39,976 football season tickets. The 2009 season ticket total surpassed the 40,000 mark Thursday morning, thanks to new record sales for the public and the return of OSU students to campus for the beginning of the fall semester.
The OSU POSSE, which consists of donors who give annually to support the student-athlete scholarship fund and other needs of athletics, has seen its membership climb to an all-time high of 9,200 members.
Football public sales numbers have risen past the 32,300 mark, easily surpassing the 2008 total of 29,993. Student tickets are also well ahead of traditional sales with more than 7,800 already purchased just four days into the fall semester. The 16,000-seat west end zone of Boone Pickens Stadium has been sold out for more than three weeks.
Another hot item has been the new student combo ticket. For $330, students can buy a season ticket for football and men's basketball. Due to space limitations in Gallagher-Iba Arena, a limited number of combo tickets are available for purchase. As of Thursday morning, more than 3,200 combo tickets had been purchased. Last year, OSU sold 1,643 student season tickets for men's basketball.
"Sales continue to be strong for both, the general public and the student body," said Tom Johnson, OSU's Director of Ticket Operations. "It is quite an accomplishment, and a testament to our fan base, to have record sales during turbulent economic times. Many schools across the country are seeing declines in their sales numbers."
Tickets can be purchased online at www.okstate.com , or by calling 877-ALL-4-OSU (877-255-4678). Student tickets can be purchased in person at the OSU ticket office in the Athletics Center.
