[Husker] Marve still looking, but would Paulus be better fit for Nebraska?

I understand the feeling that you are not being loyal to the current players, but Marve is the same as bringing in a JUCO player (which happens every year).  Marve will have three to play two as I understand it.  Still, I doubt that either comes here to play.

Some really good posts on this topic.  I agree with Nick's points about bringing in a guy for a year.  Just from my personal view, it doesn't feel right, I don't like it.  Bringing in a guy for one year to quite possibly play ahead (if not, why bring him in?) of guys that have been working heart and soul for the team and program for years just doesn't seem fair to me..  And while I also agree with Nick that the cupboard doesn't seem bare, what I (we) don't know is whether any of the QBs in place that could play this year are any good.  The coaches are the ones in the best postition to make that call.  And if they bring in a short timer, it's gotta mean that they don't think the guys in place are any good.  I guess you could argue that it may be for having a good backup, but I really don't buy that.  So I don't like it, but I gave Callahan the benefit of the doubt when he brought in Keller, and I guess I have to do the same for Coach.  If such a
thing were to happen, I sure hope it would be worth it.

Having said all that, I also think Dick is right on it when he says that he'd be surprised if one of these guys will ever be in a Husker uniform.  I would be too.  Of the two, I'd say the Miami guy is probably more likely than the Duke guy, but it just feels like both would be really slim chances.

And while I'm agreeing with people, I also think Ken is right when he says that of the two, the one year guy (Paulus) might be less disruptive than the two year guy (Mavre).  But that depends on whether the "next great QB" really turns out to be so.  Names like Dukes, Beck, etc.  remind us that it ain't so until it's so.

I appreciate the comments, but I'm still curious if anyone sees
bringing in either kid with one year to play as good thing.  It sounds
like Dave and Matthew think it might be if its done right.  But I'm
not sure it can be done right.

Its my understanding, and I gained a bit by watching Big Red Wrapup
last night, that we've got a QB (Cody Green) that is the future of
Nebraska football on staff in a redshirt situation now (a true
freshman, I think the plan is to redshirt him - in the spring game he
was still 17 years old!!).  Bringing in someone like Paulus (does he
have to sit a year, or ican he play now?) makes no sense because if
he's got only one year of eligibility, I would doubt he could walk in
to the rotation now after spring ball is over?  And if he waits a
year, gains experience, he still only plays a year and robs another
scholarship player of a year.  What does the kid from Miami have in
terms of eligibility?  One year?  Same thing.

Zac Lee is a Junior and, barring injury (knocking on wood here), has
two years to play, Kody Spano is a redshirt Freshman and was being
counted on to be backup to someone, and Cody Green is the heir
apparent.  When Washington was brought up from the linebacking corps
to be a QB, and played well at the spring game, it just seems to me
that unless you can get a proven Unitas or Montana, you pass on the
one-year wonders.

I think Dave and Matthew are correct to point out that we were burned
by the Keller situation, and they seem to think Bo may know better.  I
too will differ to the coaches (not like they're gonna ask me
anyway!!), but I just don't see a need.  We lost a QB that didn't want
to be here, but the cupboard isn't bare.  We've probably got as much
talent at QB as we ever have, but none of it has played meaningful
time.  Maybe that's what entices so much.
