A grass pitch is a necessity. You will not have any World Cup matches played on artificial turf. The players hate it. 

Putting a temporary grass surface on top of the artificial surface is common. I'm still not sure that the surface of Memorial Stadium is wide enough. FIFA would prefer a 75 yard wide playing surface which is almost 22 yards wider than an American football field. Is there that much room available?
