I'm not going to defend the decision, but will suggest that the net effect of missing three games, plus spring and preseason practice for a couple of misdemeanors could be viewed as strong.
I guess the perspective is whether you consider the charges to be valid or invalid based on the jury decision. If you equate "not guilty" with "completely innocent"...it's a strong punishment. (I don't subscribe to that perspective myself.)
