You're not dense.  I have no idea what they're talking about either. 
Nebraska has used *fireworks* right after the tunnel walk in past 
seasons, but I have never seen anything that can reasonably be described 
as "pyrotechnics" on the field of Memorial Stadium.  What a horribly 
researched article.
