[Husker] Game Observations

1) Frankly I did not believe that the Huskers could play up to the
level of Saturday's game even by the end of the season, yet they did
it in mid-season. Their development over the coming weeks remains a
mystery to me and probably should to other Listers.

2) I, for one, felt delighted at the halftime score, 17-7. If anyone
had told me at the time that the Huskers would pick up ten points of
the Red Raiders in the second half, I would have called him/her a
fool and a lair. Yet they did it.

3) Living as I do in New Mexico, I get to see a fair amount of Texas
Tech football on TV. They play spunky ball, often as underdogs, using
a lot of lesser-known talent but seem to get stronger with each
passing (deiberate pun!) year. I've never before seen Tech players so
nonplussed in the fourth quarter. It was a whole new experience for
them.

4) What I saw in the overtime was a TT squad undergoing an epiphany:
they could actually be beaten by Nebraska! Shock turned utter
desperation so that they played the overtime period like men
possessed. Children, can you all say P A N I C ?

5) That NU played as well as it did on defense seems a minor miracle
what with its raft of back-seven injuries. Amazing that TT couldn't
rack up 80 points.

6) No one should be left with any doubt that the Husker players on
both sides of the ball tested game. Not an ounce of quit in any.

7) Those who weren't sure that the coaching staff is up to the task
can now rest assured. I trust we'll hear no further grumbling on this
score.

8) I have no idea of the outcomes of the Nu-ISU game or that of any
following game(s). But I do know who I'll be rooting for.
