[Husker] The Good and The Bad

I firmly believe if the Huskers had a timeout left after the TD near the end of regulation they would've used it to set up a 2 pt conversion play. IMO, no timeout = extra point.
And I don't know what on earth Murillo could possibly have been thinking on the 4th down, inexcusable.
I'm glad the Huskers do not play Oklahoma State this season.

The Good
1) Offensive gameplan (Watson): I've been pretty critical of Watson, but
today he called a great game. Used the short passing to soften up the run
and controlled the ball.
Time of possession: 40:12 to 19:48
2) Regulation Joe Ganz: 37 of 43 (86%) for 349 yards in regulation and half
of his incompletions were throw aways.
3) Larry Asante: He was still out of place on a couple of plays, but he
played was markedly improved today and was very key to stopping the run.
Losting Glenn & Dillard, he saved us against the run. Lead the team with 9
tackles (8 solo)
4) Lucky: He did what he does best, a little of everything. 16 carries for
66 yards, and 7 catches for 80 yards. Great play for a guy that's been
pretty maligned this year (and every year). He ran with some abandon today
5) Todd Peterson: Not really a gamebreaker receiver, but he stepped up
bigtime today. Every time we needed a big play, he came through. 8 catches
for 77 yards and a TD. Great day for a walkon no-talent Nebraska kid.
6) Niles Paul: Had another great day of kick returns.
7) Meno Holt: 6 catches for 55 yards. He is really starting to come along
and is becoming a pretty dependable receiver
8) Quentin Castille: It wasn't sexy, but he got us some tough yards when we
needed it.
9) Offensive line: Bigtime step up today. They gave the RBs some great holes
today and the pass pro was really good for most of the game. Maybe the most
improved part of the team from last week to this week.
10) My cheering: I thought I really brought it today in my living room :)
The Bad
1) Not going for 2 at the end of regulation
2) The 2 hold calls at the end of the 1st half after N. Paul's big return,
bogus.
3) OT plays: Not handing the ball off at all, obviously the pick (I think he
had Lucky after he started rolling out, IMO).
4) The defense overall. While I thought we played a lot better, they still
scored on 6 of 8 possessions (not counting the end of the game) and
touchdowns on 5 of 8. Gave up way to many big plays. Granted, TT is one of
the best offenses in the country, but we still have a long ways to go on
defense.
5) Letting the receiver get behind you on the 4th down play, and on the play
at the end of the game (fortunately Murillo made up his ground and broke it
up, but still).
6) Penalties. Killed us again, proved to be the difference of the game.
Summary
Obviously I'm thrilled with the way the team played today. It's obvious
we're not a team that's used to finding ways to win, but the effort was
there and it was a very gutsy performance. We came to play in a game most
fans (including this one) didn't think we had a prayer of being within 30.
At the very least, I think we can feel pretty good about the team improving.
I think in the future Bo learns to go for two on the road. I think we win
because they hadn't been able to stop us for quite a while before that.
Great work Bo!
