[Husker] Missouri game

I respectfully disagree that the players on the field are basically
"freshmen". Except for the defensive ends, the D-linemen are vets and have
played for the last couple of years. The linebackers are wet behind the
ears but the DB's have experience. I don't claim to know what's wrong but
I'd venture a guess that talent is a considerable part of the problem. At
the risk of becoming the goat here, I think we may owe "Coz" an apology for
the way we treated him for the poor defensive play the last couple of years.
(I can't believe I just wrote that - bashing him was one of the things I did
best). The Bo brothers, who come highly recommended, haven't been able to
get these players to make plays either. I think Coz didn't have much to
work with. Some of that is on his shoulders because he helped recruit these
players.

I think we may have more luck if we put 8 players in the box and went with
man coverage. We should (try) to make life miserable for the QB. We didn't
get close to Daniels last week except on one play and that was a late helmet
to helmet hit. We can't seem to cover the receivers with the zone (we
weren't within hearing distance of most of them all night) and are less than
a great tackling team, so why not take the chance of an occasional deep pass
completion. I would pick the fastest DB's we have, regardless of
experience, and play bump and run/ man to man.

I think Bo placed a huge burden on himself by bringing his brother on board.
Carl P. may be a great DC but I'm a firm believer that you don't mix family
with business. Even in the huge corporation that I retired from, we didn't
allow siblings/kids or close relatives to work in the same department
together. We often hired siblings or kids if their parents/siblings were
great workers but we never let them work in the same office.

So empty your quivers, I seldom post, you may have to wait along time for
your next shot...

I read the same articles that suggest what you are saying about only the
first team getting meaningful reps, etc. I feel if this was indeed the case,
then we are basically fielding a team of "freshmen" as far as Bo's defense
is concerned. They all are learning his way at the same time, and this may
take a while for them to begin playing to "Bo's" level of defense. This
still doesn't explain how Bo could take "Frank's" team to such great
heights, defensively and is having such a problem with "Bill's" team, unless
there is some disparity in talent. I'm beginning to have less faith in
Rivals etc!!

That being said, the offense is simply a mystery to me. They performed at a
very high level in the last few games last year, but they are not much
different now than they were at the beginning of last year, at least it
would appear that way without looking up any stats.

At any rate, I will tune in anytime they are on my tube or radio, and I will
bleed red with them each and every week, win or lose!

GBR!

> And it is about coaching. Or lack there of. Not from this staff but the
previous one. If the first team is the only one that got reps for the last 4
years then if you weren't a starter you basiclly got no practice at all. And
then what were they being taught anyway? It sounds like if they made a
mistake in practice it wasn't corrected so how did they learn from them? Oh
yeah they went and watched game film. Hard to learn if you arent being shown
the right way at practice.

football when they haven't been getting that teaching for the last 4 years.
My guess is that the good teams were being coached right and that is why we
look so outmanned. The good teams have juniors and seniors who have been
getting practice for the last 3-5 years, not just standing around watching.
If these players had been getting the coaching they needed and the reps that
they needed I doubt you would be seeing such disparity.
