Oregon State at Arizona. Potentially interesting if OSU falls off the Rose
Bowl Float. They won't.
Do you think that if Nebraska wins next Friday afternoon, that they play
Arizona in the sun bowl? I'd like to see them play Cal. I hope the Huskers
win, as I made my reservation in El Paso yesterday.

I didn't say they were ALL uninteresting matches, and there may even
be some exciting football played in some of the non-marquee games.
(Remember the 1982 Cal-Stanford game? Stanford was 5-5, Cal was 6-4,
but The Play has appeared on thousands of T-shirts and it's impossible
for a college football season to go by without seeing it at least a
dozen times. They replayed the whole game earlier today.)
Here's the lineup from the Lincoln cable guide. I haven't written
notes on all the games, because there are some not worth mentioning
and there are some that I'm not even sure what states both teams call home.
(I've been to Macomb Ill, it's not the garden spot of the state.)
Michigan at Ohio State. As someone wrote on the Northwestern list a
few days back, who would have ever expected that this would be the
least interesting conference game in the Big 10 this weekend? RichRod
is off to an even uglier start than Callahan had at Nebraska. Can this
story have a happier ending? I've got my doubts.
Of couse in my mind the most interesting Big 10 conference games aren't
on cable but are on the Big 10 Network, the Floyd of Rosedale game (Iowa
at Minnesota) and the final battle for the Sweet Sioux Trophy (Illinois
at Northwestern) as the trustees at U of I have voted to discontinue
the trophy for political incorrectness. Those games may also decide
which Big 10 teams get chosen for bowl games ahead of Northwestern,
despite having fewer wins.
Hichigan State at Penn State. This may be interesting, but I don't
expect Penn State to slip up again. Their slip against Iowa may be
enough wedge room for Graham (I can't wait to get out of Nebraska)
Spanier to give JoePa his walking papers this year, if not, I think
it'll be next year. (Joe's upcoming hip replacement give him the
sympathy vote this year anyway.)
Texas Tech at Oklahoma. The pundits seem to be favoring OU, I'm not
buying that, this game could decide who gets the Heisman. Anyway,
this isn't a rivalry game, for Texas that was a few weeks back,
in Dallas. Texas plays their 'other' rival, Texas A&M, next weekend,
a game that may be about as uninteresting and one-sided as Ohio State
vs Michigan tomorrow. (ABC must be 'thrilled' to have both that game
and the Colorado-Nebraska game next Friday as their double-header.
Mississippi at LSU. Could be a trap game for LSU, but I think not.
West Virginia at Louisville. What bowl gets stuck with the winner of
this one?
Syracuse at Notre Dame. If Charlie Weiss loses this one, he deserves the
boot. He won't. Nobody seems to be interested in the Syracuse job,
for good reason.
Indiana at Purdue. Two 3-8 team fighting over a bucket. Tiller's swan
song. I'll miss him, he was colorful.
Washington at Washington State. They call it the Apple Bowl, this year
it's the only bowl either team gets, they're a COMBINED 1-20!
Yale at Harvard. Maybe the Bushes and Kennedys care, Obama went to
Columbia.
Air Force at TCU.
Bethune-Cookman vs Florida A&M
Alcorn State at Jackson State
The two games listed above may have more future NFL players in them than
any other two games this weekend between non-BCS teams, or even BCS
teams that aren't ranked.
Youngstown State at Western Illinois
Lehigh at Lafayette
Marshall at Rice. For no good reason, I think this might be an exciting
game.
Florida State at Maryland (How many ways can Bobby Bowden find to lose this
one?)
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati. The Steelers look good. Oh wait, this is
not an NFL game.
Oregon State at Arizona. Potentially interesting if OSU falls off the
Rose Bowl Float. They won't.
Duke at Virginia Tech. It's sad that VT's best win was against the Huskers.
UNLV at San Diego State
