You won't hear coaches talking about how bad their players are either.
What's my point? What we all hear and read is, for obvious reasons,
light years away from what goes on behind closed doors. Imagine what
would happen if Pelini got up in front of the cameras after a game and
talked about how his defense has no talent and doesn't belong on the
field. I'm not saying this is the case, but even if it were we would
never hear a coach say it unless they wanted a nice long vacation.
There is such a thing as 'ethics' at this level, and contrary to what
many people think there is still room for it.
To those who feel trick plays and long passes late in games while way
ahead is fine because the defense should stop it, consider that most
defenses at that point are not expecting the trick play or pass in the
first place based on the unwritten "code" if you will that it won't be
called when a team has the game in hand.

There are those who will argue that there is no such thing as RUTS,
period.
(I'm not one of them, though.)
For the most part you don't hear coaches complaining about it, just
fans.
(Most coaches will say, at least publicly, that it's THEIR job to keep
the other team from scoring, not the other team's job.)
