OK, so I think we can all agree this was a big game, but certainly not a landmark win. As was pointed out beating a (barely if at all) ranked 6-3 team does not define a season. It is certainly a nice start.
The much maligned DL was dominant this weekend. That is great to see. All 4 had great games. and NU put a ton of pressure on the QB without resorting to the blitz package. That was really big.
Helu was a monster on the ground. Ganz played tough and has earned the praise he received.
The play calling was excellent. NU moved the ball very nicely, the DL kept KU off balance. Those are all very encouraging things.
THis game was critical for a number of reasons. NU is not bowl eligible, it is not if anymore, but where. NU has a good shot at winning out and finishing at 8-4. I think most would have been happy with that result. It is still agonizing how close NU came to 10-2, but that is football.
My guess is that NU is looking at either the Gator Bowl of the Alamo Bowl (assuming 8-4 finish). Teams that may be chosen in front of NU are UT, OU, OSU, TT and MU. However would someone take OSU that does not travel with a ton of fans over NU that will ? Bowl order is BCS (likely chosing 2 B12 teams), Cotton, Holiday, Gator (Gator has the option of a B12 or not), Alamo, Sun (if Gator does not take B12), Independence and Texas Bowls.
Gator is reportedly looking at a 6-6 Notre Dame team. Uggh.
Finally, I also remember watching Mike type the game as it went along many moons ago. It was always fun. I "watch" Cubs games the same way (From the Cubicle at the Tribune page), and think how much easier that is than Mike doing every play.
