This is what you like to see.  A guy that recognizes and acknowledges a problem and is committed to dealing with it.  Talkling it over with the AD and working on it.  It's a sign of leadership and character.  There may be other incidents as he works it out, but he'll be fine and he'll use that emotion for the better for everyone.
