Jeff, Halfway through you letter when you mentioned the game he officiated, I suspected where you might be headed. I remember that game, UDub wasn't a bad team at all and certainly didn't need the help of the refs, but they got it anyway.
Not that the refs were as bad as the '82 Penn State game or the '93 FSU bowl game, but not good in any case.
JMHO,
Duane

Just a small tidbit...My buddy and I went on a standby list to play a round of golf at Mamala Bay Golf Course on Hickam AFB, Hawaii. We play often and had just finished an early morning round and decided to play another. We were paired with an older couple who we found out were vacationing from Seattle, Washington. The gentleman noticed my Cornhusker shirt/hat/club covers/etc... and asked if I was a Nebraska Cornhusker fan. We struck up a conversation and he explained he'd been a collegiate-level umpire/referee for 17 years ending in 1993 (PAC-10 officiating crews). He was a member of the crew that officiated the 1992 Nebraska-Washington football game (Washington won 29-14). He remembered the game because the head coach (Tom Osborne of course) sent a 3-page letter to the PAC-10 outlining the faults of that officiating crew following the game. Small world eh?
