[Husker] Baseball Team sweeps Northern Colorado

DJ's got good speed but Nimmo's a little faster. On defense we're solid for
the most part.

I was telling a friend the other day that this is one of the best left
side's of the infield we've ever had. Right there with Gordon and Simo
(maybe even a little better). Mort's got one of the best gloves we've ever
had (if only his bat was a little better) and Kline looks very promising
early.

Last year the talk was all about "How do we replace Christy?" and for the
first few weeks it looked like that spot was going to be a nightmare. Well,
Abeita stepped up bigtime and that's one of our best positions again. He's
got a great arm to 2nd and he's more dangerous than Christy at the plate.

In right, Belfonte's got the speed and his arm's incredible. He got tested
a little last year early, but after he threw out a couple at 3rd and a few
at home, that was the end of that. You just don't push your luck on that
guy.

In center, Nimmo's been the anchor for 4 years now and he's very good
defensively (might not be quite as flashy as DJ, but he's got crazy speed).
His arm's not great, but he more than makes up for it with his wheels.

Left and 1st are interesting because a lot of people are shifting in and out
of those positions. Sullivan is playing left field the most with Stewart
(love his bat) and Farst and Corriston and Neer have been switching off at
first. Neither Corriston nor Neer have been regular 1st basemen at the
college level so it should be interesting to see how that plays out.

Opitz makes some great plays at 2nd, but it seems like he'll follow that up
with a boot on an easy play shortly after.

Soooooooooooooo good to have college baseball back.

Great topic. DJ must be fast. Even if he doesn't lay one out there
perfectly, he might beat a throw. I was a little curious about our DH in
the 7-hole. I can understand when he's 9th, 'cause he might set up the
top of the order. To move Sullivan up in the order, though, he'd probably
replace Nimmo, and, as you say, if it ain't broke. . . .

Losing switch-hitting Tezac was terrifying to me, but things are going
great right now. We often have a nice LRLRLRLRL line-up, depending on
whether Farst or Stewart play, and where Kline is in the line-up.

I think the purge of a couple key attitude-setters has made a great
difference. You realize how little you care about winning when other,
more serious problems arise.
