In case you havent seen, the Husker baseball team swept the Northern
Colorado Bears for their 9th straight win.
It's very hard not to get excited about how this team is playing. For those
of us that consider baseball a religion, this team has a different feel to
it. There's fire, passion and an aggressive attitude to this team that we
haven't seen for a few years.
Northern Colorado is not a bad team, they took 2 of 4 from #20 aTm (although
they're not world beaters).
Besides the drastically improved attitude, the story of the year is the
Husker pitchers. Since the first game (where we gave up 16 earned runs) the
staff has an ERA under 2.00.
The starters ERAs are Dorn 1.35, Pribanic 0.99, Jennings 2.87, and Weber
7.16 (give him a little break since he pitched horribly the first game, but
has been decent since.
The relievers have a 22 inning scoreless streak going right now. Zach Herr,
Mike Nesseth, and Erik Anderson probably the most notable have been ligts
out.
The hitting has been improved with 4 of the regulars batting over .300
(Nimmo .439, Belfonte .392, Abeita .344, Sullivan .318) but the real story
has been the pitching. Sounds like the new pitching coach Eric Newman is
earning his keep.
The Huskers play tomorrow vs South Dakota State at 1:35pm before heading to
KSU for the first series of the Big XII season this weekend.
GBR!
