This is a somewhat long but well constructed article from

I've expressed my interest in seeing the top 8 teams settle it at the end of
the season in a playoff.  I think just as much fun would be to see, say the
third week of the season, every team in one conference (strongest to weakest
in perception) play the opposite team in another conference.  Settle it on
the field.  Then the same teams play again the next year at opposite sites
so its a 2 year deal.  Every 2 years different conferences go at it, same
week of the season the whole nation is watching.  Seems every school is
having trouble scheduling all of their games, we just helped solve that
problem as well and if you love college football, who wouldn't be
watchinig?
