Mike Arthur was with the Nebraska strength program since 1977. He was Boyd
Eppley's right hand man, and was essentially the brains behind the
operation, as he was responsible for most of the R&D that gave Nebraska such
a competitive advantage.
Mike was Eppley's heir apparent, until Callahan chose to bring in Dave
Kennedy (who had been a student assistant under Mike years before) to coach
the football strength program, and Mike was moved to be the strength coach
for the baseball program.
I personally would love to see this situation corrected, and Mike be named
the head strength coach at Nebraska. Mike Arthur is a great guy and friend,
and has all skills and knowledge to bring Nebraska back to greatness.
It should be noted, however, that much of Nebraska's "secret sauce" for
strength training is now widely known and practiced by other big-time
programs, many of whom learned from Nebraska, either by hiring grad
assistants from NU, reading their books, or attending their seminars.
