Why not? A lot of people say this, and I really don't understand it. 
Under the current system, one or (maybe) two of the bowls are relevant 
to the MNC. At worst, a playoff wouldn't change that, and under some 
schemes the "relevant" bowls would increase in number.

To my mind, the only thing a playoff need change is the selection 
process (a playoff versus a formula) for determining the two teams who 
play in the championship game; if the first two rounds of the playoff 
(assuming eight teams) are on-campus, the bowls could continue on pretty 
much as they are.
