>>Generally, I would agree college football is all about the money, that is
Why we went to the conference championships right? But there has to be more
To this argument. I don't think you can ever lose the tradition of the
Bowls so keep them, let everyone who qualifies play their bowl, keep the
Chic fill a, Alamo, holiday, citrus, pappajohns whoever bowls. You had a
Winning season, congratulations! But the top 8 in the BCS get a playoff and
It goes through the top tier/BCS of the bowl system. Unless I'm missing
Something, there would be more games. How could that not be more money and
Let the marketing guys get a hold of a college football playoff?<<

I know I get accused of repeating myself over and over but at the risk
of being criticized I am going to do it again. It still comes down to money.
More games does not necessarily compute into more money. One game with 80
000 in the stands makes more money than does four games with 20,000 in the
stands for example. I don't think the bowl traditions mean anything either
if, again, it could be shown more money would be coming in. But, the bowls
could be easily included in the playoff structure. The danger being, and
using Husker fans as an example, is football can only be played once a week.
Should NU get into a playoff and they have to play three weeks in a row say
the first week in Miami, the next in Pasadena, and the third week in New
Orleans it would be physically and monetarily impossible for the lion's
share of Husker fans to support three weeks in a row all over the country.
Even if the three games were in the same city it would be difficult. Either
you would have to stay the entire three weeks or you would have to go home
and back several times. In other words it may very well be difficult to pack
the stadium every single game regardless if it is NU or not. And, there is a
point where if a certain amount of people aren't in the stands the game is a
loser. I think that is what worries the powers that be. I would guess bowl
sponsors are putting up a fuss as well believing they possibly may lose
money or at least not make what they do now.

Something is holding it up and I have a hard time believing it is
concern for the student/athlete. Everything other sport and level of sport
of which I am aware including every level of college football other than
Division LA has a playoff system. So, it isn't like they don't know it can
be done. I also believe the powers that be are not casual about this. They
know there is pressure for a playoff system. They are not entirely stupid.
I would guess there have been consultants called in for their opinion. I
would guess they have looked into it deeply and haven't been convinced the
pay day is there. It is pretty hard for me to believe the big concerns are
the student/athlete and providing more of a true National Champion.

>>This business about Ohio State not playing for 60 days gets tossed also
Because they would have to play around Christmas time or before. Make
Everyone have a conference championship so its fair and throw even more
Money in the pot.<<

Before you make everyone have a conference championship game you would
have to make everyone be in a conference. There isn't that many Independents
They are Army, Navy, Western Kentucky, and Notre Dame. That would be very
difficult especially when one of them is Notre Dame. The best way is for the
BCS to not include the conference championship results in the BCS standings.
