[Husker] Texas Makes A Hire

Greetings Husker fans,
While everyone was asleep last night, Texas made a HUGE addition to
their football staff, filling their open DC position with Will Muschamp,
the DC at Auburn. For those unfamiliar, Muschamp was a part of the
defensive staff at LSU during their last National Championship (Nick
Saban), on a Top 10 NFL defensive staff for the Miami Dolphins and
recently over the past couple of years had turned Auburn into a Top 10
defense as their coordinator. His name was mentioned as a possible
candidate for several of the recent job openings in college football. If
the defense at Texas flourishes under him, which I have no doubt it
will, it could be the missing piece that takes UT to the top of the Big
12. If they are successful, thankfully he is not likely to be at UT very
long and will certainly get a shot as a head coach within 2 to 3
seasons.
Even though I am pretty happy with the coaching staff that we have put
together, this hire does show a different philosophy at Texas than at
Nebraska. We had a staff full of job openings and hired a bunch of guys
with previous ties to the program who had either recently been fired by
other teams or in some cases were out of football all together. Texas
had a single staff opening and went out and hired a guy with no ties to
the program who is generally regarded as one of the top 2 or 3 defensive
coordinators in college football. Makes you wonder.
Have a great day.
Go Big Red!!!
Jeff
