>>>As for Pepsi tents, well, Coke is an NCAA partner, so
that's even less likely. :-)
Obviously Pepsi wasn't a specific reference, but a general corporate
reference.
>>>>>>Ummm...considering the stadium is going to be
surrounded by about 5,000 parking spots, I think
you're being a little melodramatic. Think that there
aren't going to be tailgaters there? Hardly.
Two things:
1) There is certainly going to be some tailgaiting, but it's going to be a
lot more regulated by the NCAA as a 'clean zone'. Not like the tailgaters
in the yards/private properties it is now. In other words, any decent spot
is going to be given to large donors and corporate sponsors and not the
'average joe' it is today.
2) The '5,000' parking spots you refer to are within a mile or two and most
are not directly around the stadium. Remember, one of the big reasons they
say they need to move it downtown is proximity to restaurants and hotels.
>>>>>>The NCAA is a corporate entity, and is all about
making money and serving their interests. Omaha has
to make a choice...either change the CWS to be what
the NCAA wants it to be, or challenge the NCAA to take
it elsewhere. No matter what Omaha announced today...
even keeping Rosenblatt intact, there were going to be
MAJOR changes around Rosenblatt. (Namely, bulldozing
dozens of houses for NCAA tents and corporate stuff.)
Don't disagree one bit...My main issue is that something that has been one
of the most fan-centric events since inception is going to lose its purity.
When people come to the CWS they are amazed by it's "Love for the game"
feeling to it. Colin Cowherd, Harold Reynolds, and pretty much anyone from
ESPN (I know HR's not with ESPN anymore) say they are amazed by how it
hasn't been taken over like the Super Bowl and the NCAA Final Four has.
They say it's the true embodiment of college sports and the purity of the
student athlete.
