Today, Omaha mayor Mike Fahey announced his plans for the new College World
Series stadium (more on why I call it that in a minute).

and

The stadium would be in lots C&E of the Qwest center parking lot and would
cost about $140 million with approximately $59 million paid by public funds.
Couple of key points:
1) There will NOT be removable seats. This is a big deal because it
virtually guarantees that this stadium will ONLY be used for the CWS. The
Royals and Creighton will probably need a smaller site to play in (Royals
for sure, not sure about CU).
2) Fahey has said repeatedly that he will not raise property taxes to pay
for it. However, a good part of the money comes from suspending money the
city currently gives Douglas County from its lottery proceeds. Douglas
County has said that they will HAVE to raise property taxes to make up for
the loss of revenue. While Fahey isn't technically lying....
3) Fahey contends that due to larger private donations for the downtown
park, renovating Rosenblatt would cost the public about the same amount and
wouldn't achieve all the benefits of the downtown stadium.
That's a good start anyway...Goodbye CWS as we know it.
