First - I don't know how much experience you guys have at getting a
group of girls to work together with no drama but it is not that easy
(says the former cheer team sponsor, and girl scout camp counselor)

Secondly - in my experience it is not all that unusual for someone
who is outstanding in some way to have negative comments thrown their
way. We had a student with a perfect ACT score some years back and
even though no one was surprised by this I did hear snotty comments
directed her way. We had one of the greatest middle to long distance
runners in the state at our school and people dismissed his
accomplishments and just luck. Only the folks that worked with him
knew how much work he did to become that good.

Sara "might" need to loosen up a bit for her own mental health but
honestly, I am not stupid by any means but there was no way then or
now that I would have been able to pull a 4.0 in Biochemistry - and I
took lots of chemistry to do what I do now so I know what it takes.
That and making the commitment both physically and mentally to be at
the highest level in your sport and I am not surprised her sense of
humor isn't all it could be.

If the article is a truthful picture of how she feels about the
program then fine. If there are issues that need to be addressed in
the volleyball program sweeping things under the rug and not facing
up to stuff won't help.

I bet those unity council meetings of football players weren't always
a cheerleading session for all aspects of the football program - they
just didn't publish the minutes so to speak.
