I think as far as closeness to the campus it is a moot point. The
point being is this new arena primarily for NU athletics or is it an all
purpose arena including sports and beyond both for NU and the city of
Lincoln? The Devaney Center is not for the use of the
city of Lincoln. It is on State property. A new center will have to
share the venue with the city of Lincoln. It will not have the home
court feeling the Devaney Center has. But, I don't think the Devaney
Center has the home court feeling the Coliseum did either. But
whatever, a building that shares the university along with the city of
Lincoln is not going to have a true home court feeling for NU. Maybe
the Devaney Center is off campus but the primary use of the building is
for NU athletics. That will not be true of a a new arena off the
Haymarket area.
