While NU probably would be favored to win 5 of the 8, the losses are
pretty likely (according to this predictor) --- 15%, 20%, and 30%
chances of winning --- while the wins are much more in doubt ---
51%, 56%, 61%, 63%, and 85%. If my quick computations are correct
and you take those as the odds of the outcome of each independent
game, then the odds for the rest of the season are:
Odds of 0 wins: 0.22%
Odds of 1 wins: 2.69%
Odds of 2 wins: 11.78%
Odds of 3 wins: 25.63%
Odds of 4 wins: 30.63%
Odds of 5 wins: 20.41%
Odds of 6 wins: 7.29%
Odds of 7 wins: 1.27%
Odds of 8 wins: 0.08%
So, the odds of finishing at least .500 would be less than 30% even
though NU is favored in five of the eight remaining games. With
those odds, finishing 7-9 is more likely and odds of 6-10 or worse
are about 40%.
