Kind of what Maryland may have been thinking when they lost to Middle Tennessee State this year, at Maryland no less. Not sure where Maryland ended up but they were ranked at one point in time during the season. Yes, most of the time the Sun Belt teams are playing for the $ against the BCS conference teams but they occasionally can do some damage if not taken seriously. These guys may be a shade below the big schools in talent but they have tremendous heart. With that said, Troy may be the only Sun Belt team that could stand a reasonable chance of going to Lincoln and making a big splash. Wish NU had scheduled Middle TN State for a 2 and 1 or something like that, would love to have gone a mile down the road to see my Huskers play!
Another cruelty of life - I walked into a Publix store (southeast grocery chain) the other day wearing a Nebraska jacket. The manager started good naturedly giving me crap about Nebraska. Turns out she graduated from CU. So of course I asked her if she was excited about CU's upcoming bowl game. Oh wait, THEY AREN'T GOING TO A BOWL GAME THIS YEAR!!! Kind of ended the conversation on a high note for me, not so high for her. Love it!

Well I guess that is all the more reason for Nebraska to make sure they smack these teams around so they can be ranked headed in to conference play.
I bet the kids don't care much who they play anyway as long as they are having fun.

No, they are patsies. It doesn't change just because they beat up on each other. They come from the Sun Belt conference which is probably the worst conference in Div. 1. This is the worst OOC schedule ever for an NU team.

Okay, so I need a life, but I was looking at NU's non-conference schedule
for next year and came across some interesting (to me, anyway) coincidences.
Aside from Virginia Tech, the Huskers play Florida Atlantic (coached by none
other than Howard Schnellenberger), Arkansas State and Louisiana-Lafayette. All
three of these teams play in the Sun Belt Conference; I don't recall any
season when NU played three non-conference games against teams from one
conference. Moreover, all three of them finished this season at 6-6 (FAU will
play a bowl game Friday), and they each won one and lost one in the games
against the other two. You might conclude they were evenly matched this year,
and they might not be quite the patsies we would ordinarily expect (though no
one will confuse them with Virginia Tech or Oklahoma).
