[Husker] advice on Jacksonville

I lived, until last November, in Jacksonville for 14 years. Let me answer your questions first. Yes, rent a car. Jacksonville is a big city, land mass, but is a small town in many ways. Cabs are overpriced and your other option is the buses. Everything is so spread out that you will pay more for cabs than a rental car.
Don't stay near the airport, it is way out of the way and none of the hotels out there are very nice. Try the Southside area or out towards the beach. There are not a lot of hotel options in Jax, that is why they brought in cruise ships for the Super Bowl. Don't get too excited about the beach, not very pretty. Downtown is only nice by the Landing, not so nice everywhere else. There should be a party down there NYE, but it is crowded. The Landing also hosts the pep-rally.
Northeast Floridians for Nebraska is having a tailgate and getting together the day before the game. Great group of people who are, like all of us, hopelessly devoted to the Huskers. If anyone would like info on that group, feel free to email me.
I hope that helps.
