[Husker] Staying Put

I was a doctoral student at A.S.U. at the time (1980 or 81), Frank Kush was forced out.
You might remember a punter filed assault charges against the coach stemming from an incident in practice. Kush went on a tirade (imagine that), grabbed the punter's face mask and began jerking it violently. The resulting controversy (not-so-creatively called "Kush-gate") led to Frank's dismissal.

Bob Devaney was never fired or pushed out, though he probably came close
in 1967-68. If you go back to that era of coaches, I think you would
have Darrel Royal, John McKay, Dan Devine, Frank Broyles, Bear Bryant,
and maybe Frank Kush; I would like to add Bud Wilkensen, but I have a
vague recollection that he was pushed out at the end, despite his
enormous accomplishments. In the last 25 years, TO is the only one I can
come up with. Bill Snyder once qualified - and may again - but he put
himself back in play.
