[Husker] Let's talk about the defense

To me the stat's you need to look at are the rushing yards, turnovers and
sacks. The defense had two turnovers when the D only had 11 all of last
year. And the D had 4 sacks with a total of 13 all of last year. And WMU had
over 100 yds receiving on two plays from the TE. And the rushing offense was
not there for WMU so they had to pass. Also the D did hustle to the ball and
did not give up until the whistle blew. Except once when West was chasing a
guy running down the east sideline he let up coach P had a word with him
after that as I recall.

Subject: [Husker] Lets talk about the defense

I wasn't able to watch or listen to the game this weekend. The chatter on
the list has been minimal, to say the list.

Just wondering what folks who saw the game (either on TV or in person)
thought about the defense. I've only heard a few comments so far, and I'm
wondering about the following:

1. Did the defensive backs play closer to the receivers than last year?
2. Was there a push from the front 4?
3. Looking at the stats, it appears as if the Huskers defense looked good
in the first half, but blew up in the 3rd quarter. Was that due to a lack
of adjustments? Did the defense look tired? Did they lose their
focus/motivation/etc after having such a good first half?

I pulled the following from the stats.
1. WMU converted on 50% of 3rd and long (6+ yards to go). Not a good stat.
2. Huskers gave up 4 plays of over 20 yards each; three of them in the 2nd
half. Not a good stat.

I'm really hoping for a change from the awful defense from last year, but
giving up 340+ yards passing (190 in the 3rd quarter) is a bit discouraging.
Especially, since that team was Western Michigan.
