[Husker] Pelini Article

I looked at this pretty hard when I wrote the article about walk-ons
for "A Sea of Red". And honestly, I didn't want to write that article
myself, but some stuff fell through on the book, so you guys know the
truth. ha!
While it's true there can be only 85 players total on scholarship,
many teams get past that limit by having special teams players walk
on. Punter Dan Titchner was a walk-on, as was Jake Wesch, Alex Henery
from this year's team. There are a bunch of guys from the past, Kyle
Larson, Bill LaFleur and Jesse Kosch to name a few.
I suppose, rather than "get past the limit", they hedge their bets and
make the guys earn a scholarship. Out of the 25 that can be given out
every year, some simply aren't going to make it, so the walk-on
program fills that gap by allowing other players to earn it.
The walk-on program will always have it's detractors, especially when
you look at it only from a single perspective.
