I think there is certainly a degree of truth to that.  When Coz had Carriker and Moore on his dline, the defense finished in the top 25 if I recall correctly.  

Our defense put no pressure on opponents last year, not just the dline, but anywhere.  I think not having thoose talents exposed the bad schemes.

      NU is one of the "Redemption" teams.  This kind of echoes my  
sentiments.  I think NU will be better especially defensively.  However,  
before real improvement will be made the defense needs better players.  I  
always thought that was the problem in the past few years.  Cosgrove  
obviously left something to be desired and he needed to go but I never  
have believed the defensive problems were ALL coaching.  I seriously don't  
believe if you have great players on defense you will give up 70 plus  
points a game regardless of who is the coach.
