I know it has been discussed here a few days ago but this list is
really dead with football just around the corner. I too, remember the
days in the past when this time of year there would be 50 or more posts a
day. I doubt right now there are that many a week. Some days go by and
there are no posts. But, I am on several other sports lists and I have
seen the same trend. Lists that used to be very active are now just a
shadow of their former selves. For instance, I am on the Cardinals List
and during the baseball season it used to be common to get 80-120 posts a
day. Now on heavy days there might be 8-10. The Cubs list is entirely
dead and that seems unusual with them leading their division most of the
year. This Husker list is reflective of a trend in my opinion.
I think possibly there might be several reasons for the collapse of
mailing lists. One is every list has had the same thing in common. That
being people taking personal offense when disagreed with and/or the need
for some to jump all over someone because they don't see it their way. I
think sometimes people just get tired of it. The Internet blogs have
taken the place of mailing lists for some people. And there is always the
fact that sometimes people's lives change and they just don't have time
for this kind of banter. The thing I have noticed on most all lists is
one expects people to leave lists for various reason. It is just there
doesn't seem to be that many replacing them. One person here made the
comment there was more posts during the spring baseball season than there
is with the upcoming football season. It wouldn't have been that long ago
football would have just buried baseball even during the baseball
season. It really is not that big of thing to me. It just seems strange
that we are this close to the football season beginning with a new coach
and mostly new staff and this list is very dead.
