Especially , as it says in the article if you are of non european 
descent or are of mixed race as these groups are very under 
represented in the donor pool.

As long as we are talking public service - remember that giving blood 
can save up to three lives and is super easy to do.  Plus if you give 
with the Blood Bank in Lincoln there are treats and loot to be had - 
heck the cookies and pens alone are worth the trouble.

I don't know about other schools in the big 12 but I know that in the 
past the Huskers in all sports have been encouraged to do all kinds 
of community things, going to nursing homes, hospitals, working for 
different causes - all good stuff to get into the habit of doing at 
their age.  Whatever you want to say about Calahan his foundation did 
raise a lot of money for breast cancer and if you are going to use 
your position or celebrity of whatever for a good cause then I say 
good for you.

Go Big Red - has a couple of meanings in this context!
