I thought it had been a while. 1962 and 1963 were during the Devaney
era and were Devaney's first two years so the program was just starting to
turn around. No surprise there. So, am I correct in saying this was the
first time in the Osborne/Solich/Callahan eras that the draft has gone this
deep before a Husker was drafted? Absolutely amazing the Huskers wouldn't
have one pick before the fifth round. I am not one that necessarily
believes where your players place in the draft is reflective of the kind of
college team you had/have. However, to have your first player not go until
the fifth round when you are supposedly one of the premier programs in the
country doesn't speak very well. It is a good thing some things are in the
past.
