I think we will beat Missouri at home this year. For some reason Missouri has a hard time winning in Lincoln.

To put things in perspective, in '61 the Huskers went 3-5 (or something close) when a new coach came to town. Devaney took that team to 9-2 and a bowl game his first year. Devaney and Osborne made legends of themselves by winning the games they were supposed to and making an occasional upset. I expect the same of Pelini.

Nine wins is the minimum acceptable goal IMHO. Next year, we need to beat one of: Virginia Tech, Missouri, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and the bowl game and beat all the rest. Now I'm aware "the rest" includes Kansas, but watch a meltdown south of the Nebraska border next year so I don't think that will be a problem. Easy? Of course not. But expected nonetheless.

Getting to the BCS puts Pelini is the Devaney/Osborne category.

There is additional logic to getting there. IF last year's team had played to potential, we would have won the North, but Coz's defense prevented that. Same offense with a strong D should also put us in position to win the North (with strong competition from Missouri). I could see a 10-2 regular season with losses only to Missouri and Oklahoma, but that won't get us to a BCS bowl. 10-3 with a loss to VT and two to Oklahoma won't do it either. It would take 11-2 or better with one loss to VT and splitting the games with OU to get us to the BCS. Now THAT is Devaney like.

Go Bo,
Duane Feldman

That's not "HIGHLY optimistic". Here's a prediction
that's "HIGHLY optimistic". Not mine, mind you...

Former Husker walk-on Matt Vrzal (who apparently
predicted 7 wins in 2007) is predicting more than
that. He doesn't put numbers on it, but he's thinking
BCS Bowl game. Not the national championship game, but
one of the big bowls... which would indicate 10-2
(10-3?) or 11-1 (11-2?) to me. I throw the extra game
in because if you are thinking BCS bowl, a Big XII
championship game certainly is within reason.

He's not only buying into the coaching abilities of
this staff, he's also buying into the recruiting
abilities of the previous staff, saying that the
talent level in Lincoln is unbelievable.
