The reason it makes no sense to you is you missed my point entirely. I
wasn't trying to say if this would have happened instead of this then things
would work out. You can make that statement about a lot of choices in life
as you attempted to do. If I had invested in McDonald's in 1957 I probably
would have a lot more money than I do today as well. But, that wasn't the
point.

My point was comparing football to the other sports in the Athletic
Department. At NU the AD is judged on how football goes period. If
football is a dominating force in the Conference and the Nation then the
other sports could be terrible and few people would care. Life would be
fine within Husker Nation. But if the reverse is true where other sports
are winners and some maybe even dominating winners and football is down then
the AD has problems. My point was Pederson would have survived no matter
what he did or how he treated people if football would have been a
dominating force. The entirety of the Athletic Department wasn't down.
But, since football was down everything became an issue.

If anyone says I didn't want Pederson fired I have never said that. I
think it got to the point that for the good of the department and for the
good of Pederson himself a change had to be made. But, it really mostly
came down to football. Also, I didn't say that was right, wrong, or
indifferent. I am just saying that is the way it was and the way it will
likely always be at NU.
