Overall I thought the defense played pretty good with the exception of the 97 yard drive in the fourth quarter and a couple of dump penalties. In my opinion it was the lack of offensive possessions that made the game seem closer than it was. The defense spent a whole lot of time on the field. Take away the Huskers last touchdown (Drive started on ISU 3 yd line) and the 93 yd interception return for a touchdown the offense only scored 21 points. The offense was pretty inconsistant yesterday. Here are few interesting stats below.

Time of possession. ISU 39:12 NU 20:48

Net Total Yards ISU 451 NU 369
  Total Plays 102 59
Avg Gain per Play 4.1 6.3

Plays per Qtr

1st ISU 26 NU 8
2nd ISU 22 NU 27
3rd ISU 29 NU 7
4th ISU 27 NU 16

Disclaimer for those who like to nick pick. I got these stats off the internet. I noticed the plays per quarter do not match the total plays above but they are close enough to make a point.

I did seem to notice that some of the defensive players were delivering some pretty hard hits and the overall tackling seems better. Yeah it was Iowa St but seeing what happened yesterday in college football who knows what each team is capable until they line up and play.

Here hoping the Huskers take the Tigers next Sat. No prediction from me. I guess flip a coin. Seems like that is what college football has become.

Go Huskers,

David Sage
