[Husker] The Big Red is Awfully Little

Matt Hayes has always delighted in taking any shot he could at Nebraska.

I am by no means Kevin Bacon at the end of Animal House "Remain calm, all is
well"

Everything is not under control, but it is a little early to panic. We are
assuming the defense will play like this the rest of the year. [A fair
assumption, but not necessarily a correct assumption.] We do not know how
these players and coaches will step up. If the coaches don't simplify the
schemes and let the players play, they need to be whacked with a rubber
mallet. If the players don't step up they need a whacking.

It is easy to forget the same things were said about the 2003 defense (now
remembered as one of the greatest defenses of all time.) After the K-State
game former players left early in dejection and said they were ashamed to be
part of the Nebraska heritage. They questioned how the Blackshirt tradition
could drop so far. The defensive coaching staff was criticized for poor
scheming and the lack of fundamentals on the part of the players. It
happens.

This could still be a special season. We don't know yet. Stay positive! (But
keep the tar warm and the rail and feathers handy.)

Gerald
