I'll throw a name into the hat. He is the DC and Linebackers coach at a
small college in Nebraska and his name is Tony Harper.
second year in the program and has the team headed in the right
direction.

You know, that's an excellent question. I don't pretend to know
much

about

all the different coordinators around the country, but I've
always

felt some

of the best hires are guys who did really well at a lesser
program or

a

lesser position from the pros (like pelini @ LB coach). I think
if

you go

out and try to find a guy that's been really successful at the
major

D1

level as a coordinator, he's either going to cost too much or be

looking for

	a HC job somewhere.

For instance, find the 'mid-major' team with the best defense or
maybe
there's 'specialty' coach (ex. Linebacker coach) in the pro's
who

seems to

	have 'the stuff'.

Fact of the matter, I've heard a couple names that sound
intriguing.

Kevin

Steele and Bob Davie just to name a couple. Heck, I've heard
Lloyd

Carr

might be looking for a job this year (kidding).

I've always been a pretty big fan of USC Linebacker coach Ken
Norton

Jr.

(probably because I like the 9ers). Also, say what you want
about Jim

Mora

Jr, but the man flat out can coach a defense.

That's about all I can come up with in my head. No inside
knowledge

or

	anything, just a few.
