If you are talking about brining in Bo Pelini as head
coach to replace Bill Callahan, I would imagine that
Pelini would come in at a pay level similar to what
Callahan is earning (probably about $2 million). $5
million? I don't think even Nick Saban got that from
'Bama.
I think Bo left with good feelings about Nebraska
except for the administration, so if that were to
change, I would say Pelini would be interested. Of
course, he might also be watching for a promotion at
LSU in case Les Miles gets the call to Ann Arbor.
However, the real expense isn't in hiring a Pelini,
it's the buyouts of Steve Pederson and Callahan that
will probably strain the booster money. Might even
require buying out Harvey Perlman as well. That's
going to cost an awful lot of money. (Though I wonder
how much money has been withheld from the "N" project
for just such a purpose. My guestimate is that the
amount of money in reserve for this change is
somewhere between $100 and $10 million...)
