[Husker] Frustration

Fortunately I was driving back from Colorado after the game yesterday and
couldn't post my reaction.

With a day to 'cool' here's my thoughts:

On the defense:

I was willing to give Cos some credit / leeway for last year's defense since
the defensive backfield was so poor (and worn out by the end of the year),
but now the excuses stop. What was supposed to be our strength
(linebackers) don't seem nearly as good without a stellar defensive line
(how much do we miss Carriker and Moore now?).

I TRULY believe Callahan's a good coach and is very good for NU. If he
doesn't put his friendship with Coz aside, I fear it might be his downfall.
Coz sucks, period.

On a positive: Dillard looked great and at times Turner and Potter looked
fantastic as well. Grixby made some great plays on special teams and his
near interception was amazing. Ruud played decent, even without the
interception.

On the negative: Suh, who I thought was the best player on our d, has just
been manhandled the last two games. Our interior d-line is just plain bad.
McKeon, who was pretty dang good last year, seems to be lost and is always
running behind the play trying to catch up. Green, supposedly one of our
fastest players is always a step behind as well.

No, I don't care who's mommies are listening, if Sportscenter can comment on
players, so can I.

The Offense:

Positive: The good news is everything that was said about Keller appears to
be true. He's got a special arm and he should be fun to watch this year as
we try to keep up with people shredding our defense. Our receivers have
REALLY come along and made some great catches aside from one dropped ball
out of Danny Erickson. We seemed to have found the Tight End we were
looking for in 5th year Senior walk-on Sean Hill. For as much crap as
Marlon Lucky gets, his 183 total yards yesterday were impressive and he
still looks great anytime he catches the ball. Also, this is probably the
best pass-blocking line we've ever had. Q looked great outside of the
fumble.

Negative: As good as this line pass-blocks, why can't they run block? I
realize part of the problem is we gave up on the run, but we weren't getting
very good push early in the game. The 2nd half we were popping off runs of
5-8 yards pretty regularly, but geesh. It was fun to watch Helu, Jr. He's
some kinda quick and will be dangerous if we can get him in the open field.
I was really disappointed we didn't go back to Q after the fumble, he sure
looked good besides that.

Overall: This is a darn good offense Cally's put together. I just hope he
realizes he can't let his buddy ruin his career. GET A NEW DC NOW!
