[Husker] Revealing OWH Chart

That was a great article. What is most revealing is the YAC (Yards After
Contact). As I mentioned before, in most cases, the right defensive call
was made. The players were in a position to make the stop. They just
didn't do it. This could be due to a lack of
skills/fundamentals/techniques/etc, but I don't think that's it at all. I
think there are a couple of other factors that could come into play.

1. Emotion. If the Defensive player has too much of it, he overruns the
play. If not enough, he gets pushed aside.

2. Attitude/Style. Many players want to make the "big hit", and therefore
try to tackle with the shoulders and no arms, or the arms and no shoulders.
This happens a lot in college and the pros.

3. Stupidity. OK...maybe a harsh word for it, but I can't think of a
better one. How many times does a running back have to break a tackle
before the defenders quit trying to strip the ball and just try to bring the
back down? This also happens in the pros. Anyone who watched the
Rams-49ers game this weekend will remember Gores big play on 4th down. The
Ram defender admitted he was going for the ball, and not the tackle.

I'm not blaming the players or the coaches for this. It's both of them.
Cosgrove needs to ensure the players are in the right frame of mind. The
players need to forget they are in the spotlight and just play ball.
