I think he's ready to be a head coach now, he probably wasn't ready 4 
years ago, not that he was going to get serious consideration at Nebraska.

If LSU's head coach, Les Miles, goes to Michigan as some have suggested 
after the end of the season, assuming Lloyd Carr lasts that long, (Michigan
is Miles' so-called dream job), Bo Pelini might get a reasonable shot at
the LSU job.  If not, he'll be on the short list for several jobs again 
this year, but may not be available until the 2nd week in January.
